Penn Station Athlete of the Month for February, 2020: Delaney Benedict

Congratulations to Delaney Benedict of Greenon High School, the Penn Station Athlete of the Month for February, 2020!

Delaney, who has a 4.43 GPA, is the daughter of Christian and Kathy Benedict and sister of Bailey Benedict, who she calls her role model. Delaney noted that Sha’Carri Richardson is her sports hero.

Delaney participates in soccer, basketball and track at Springfield’s Greenon High School and also is involved in the National Honor Society, Varsity G, Yearbook, Peer Tutoring, Student Council, Reading and Skiing extracurricular activities. She notes her greatest achievement so far was making “all-state” in soccer and track. After high school, she plans to attend Cornell University to run track and major in genetics.

Delaney said, “participating in high school athletics has helped me stay active, meet new people, and has taught me time management with my academics. I love being part of a team and the competition it brings.”

Athletic Director Kevin Finch noted that “Delaney is a three-sport athlete who always embodies a team-first attitude. Her coaches state that Delaney always exceeds expectations among their teams.”

Principal Jared Shore added “I am very proud of Delaney and her accomplishments. She is a dedicated student athlete, who exceeds both on and off the court.”

Congratulations, Delaney from all of us!
